The short answer
How to read this comparison
Builders differ most on three things: where the vehicle is built, how bespoke it is (a one-off commission versus a configured or restored car), and the powertrain (modern V8 versus original or electric). The table above lays these out side by side.
All figures are approximate and drift over time. Confirm current pricing and specifications on each builder's own site before deciding.
The tiers
Value V8 builders such as Osprey Custom 4x4 offer strong V8 restorations at lower prices. Mid-tier bespoke houses, including Monarch Defender, Twisted, Himalaya, and Blackbridge, build largely one-off commissions with modern V8 power. Prestige heritage shops such as Helderburg and Cool & Vintage sit at the top, alongside EV converters such as Everrati (whose classic Land Rover is a Series IIA). ECD and Arkonik span value to custom through configurators and high volume.
Where Monarch fits
Monarch is a single-owner bespoke commission, built ground-up in the US with the modern GM LS3 or LT1 V8 at mid-tier pricing. It is the pick for a buyer who wants a true one-off rather than a configured, inventory, or restored car.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which custom Defender builder is best?
It depends on what you want. For a single-owner bespoke V8 commission on a brand-new body, Monarch Defender; for scale and a configurator, ECD; for value, Osprey Custom 4x4; for heritage character, Helderburg; for an electric classic Land Rover, Everrati.
How do custom Defender builders differ?
Mainly by build location, how bespoke the build is (one-off commission versus configured or restored), and powertrain (modern V8 versus original or electric). Price follows from those choices.
