The short answer
What drives the price of a custom Defender?
Two builds can differ by six figures based on these four areas. Confirm what any quote actually includes before comparing.
What is included in the price?
A Monarch commission is a complete, ground-up build. The price is not a base vehicle plus options: it covers the entire process from donor sourcing to delivery.
- Donor sourcing and a new KTL-coated galvanized chassis
- GM V8 powertrain (LS3 ~430 hp or LT1 ~460 hp) with automatic transmission
- Upgraded axles, suspension, and brakes
- Hand-stitched leather interior built to your specification
- Paint, trim, and exterior configuration of your choice
- Integrated technology including Apple CarPlay
- A 12-stage build process with progress updates
How do deposits and payments work?
A commission is secured with a deposit, and the balance is paid in progress payments tied to build milestones over the 6 to 12 month build. The exact schedule is set out in your build agreement before work begins, so there are no surprises.
Monarch also accepts qualifying vehicles as trade-in credit toward a new commission.
How does Monarch pricing compare?
The custom Defender market splits into value V8 production builds around $140,000 to $200,000, mid-tier bespoke commissions at $250,000 to $350,000 and up, and prestige heritage or electric builds that can exceed $500,000. Monarch sits in the bespoke tier: one owner, one build, on a new chassis.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a Monarch Defender cost?
A Monarch Defender build typically runs $250,000 to $350,000 and up depending on specification. Every build is a single-owner, ground-up commission on a new chassis, so the final price reflects your exact configuration.
What is included in the price?
The price covers the complete ground-up build: donor sourcing, a new KTL-coated chassis, the GM V8 powertrain with upgraded transmission, axles, suspension, and brakes, a hand-stitched leather interior, paint, and integrated technology such as Apple CarPlay. Your build agreement itemizes the full specification.
How do deposits and payments work?
A commission is secured with a deposit, and the balance is paid in progress payments tied to build milestones. The exact schedule is set out in your build agreement before work begins.
Why do custom Defender prices vary so much?
Most of the difference comes from four areas: the donor and chassis, the powertrain, the interior and finish, and labor hours. A one-off bespoke build on a new chassis with a modern V8 costs more than a configured production build or a basic restoration.
Do you accept trade-ins?
Yes. Monarch accepts qualifying vehicles as trade-in credit toward a new commission. We do not restore customer-supplied Defenders; every Monarch is built from the ground up on our own donor and a new chassis.
Does the price include delivery?
Monarch offers white-glove delivery across the USA and coordinates international shipping, customs documentation, and insured transport. Delivery terms are confirmed in your build agreement.
