Craft restoration vs new-vehicle build
Brooklyn Coachworks earns its press: two decades of Defender craft, builds on new galvanized chassis with new body panels, and a spread of drivetrains from heritage TD5 and 300Tdi diesels to the GM LS3 and LT1. For a New York buyer it is the local benchmark.
Monarch takes the next step in the same direction: not new panels on a restored truck, but an entirely new aluminum body on a new chassis, built as a complete vehicle. The engine ladder also runs one rung higher, to the supercharged 650 hp LT4.
Scale, coverage, and price
Brooklyn Coachworks builds roughly 12 to 20 trucks a year with reported pricing from about $160,000; V8 builds carry GM's 24-month/50,000-mile crate warranty and TD5 builds a 2-year driveline warranty. Monarch builds about 60 a year at a published $250,000 to $350,000 band, and covers the whole vehicle, not just the driveline, for two years bumper-to-bumper, with GM's crate coverage on top.
Where Brooklyn Coachworks is the better fit
Choose Brooklyn Coachworks for a craft restoration at a lower entry price, for heritage diesel options, or simply for having the shop a subway ride away. Choose Monarch when the brief is a new truck: full new-body construction, open single-owner specification, up to 650 hp, and whole-vehicle coverage in writing.

Traditional Restoration
Original everything: the loose steering, the weak brakes, the leaks, the smell of gasoline. Beautiful in a museum, exhausting on the road. You will drive it twice a summer.

Typical Restomod
New parts bolted into a thirty-year-old body. Better, but it still rattles, still rusts, and still doesn't drive like a modern truck. You will drive it on nice weekends.

Monarch Defender (us)
A ground-up build on a brand-new aluminum body: a GM V8 with up to 650 HP, modern suspension, brakes, and climate control. It looks like 1990 and drives like 2026. You will fight your family for the keys.
