Heritage preserved vs heritage rebuilt
Helderburg builds around what the truck was: numbers-matching chassis and engine, every system re-engineered around the original, commissioned from its Arkansas headquarters and hand-built in England over 12 to 16 months. It is a genuine one-of-one heritage product with published per-model pricing from $288,200 for a Defender 90 to $406,640 for a 130.
Monarch builds what the truck never was: the classic silhouette on a brand-new aluminum body and new chassis, with a modern GM V8, 430 hp LS3 standard, 460 hp LT1 and supercharged 650 hp LT4 optional, modern suspension, brakes, and climate control. It looks like 1990 and drives like a new truck, because mechanically it is one.
Power and daily usability
This is the fork in the road: Helderburg deliberately does not chase horsepower, and its drivetrains stay original in character. A buyer who wants to merge onto an American interstate, tow, or hand the keys to a spouse for the school run is buying a different kind of vehicle than a preserved classic. Monarch's whole premise is that daily usability: ice-cold AC, modern brakes, and V8 torque are standard equipment, not upgrades.
Warranty, lead time, and where each is built
Credit where due: Helderburg's 7-year unlimited-mile concierge warranty and lifetime parts guarantee is the strongest coverage story in the segment, and longer than Monarch's two-year bumper-to-bumper (which adds GM's factory warranty on the crate engine). Monarch's answers are speed and proximity: a 6 to 12 month build against Helderburg's 12 to 16 months, built in Illinois rather than England, by a team you can visit before and during the build.
Where Helderburg is the better fit
Choose Helderburg if originality and provenance are the point and modern V8 performance is not: it is a superb heritage house with the best warranty in the business. Choose Monarch if you want the classic Defender as a new vehicle: brand-new body, modern V8, US-built, delivered in half the time. There is no wrong choice here, only a different definition of the perfect Defender.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Monarch Defender and Helderburg?
Helderburg builds numbers-matching heritage restorations in England, commissioned from its US headquarters, with published pricing from $288,200 and a 7-year concierge warranty. Monarch Defender builds ground-up on a brand-new aluminum body in Illinois with modern GM V8 power from 430 to 650 hp, from $250,000, in 6 to 12 months.
Is a Monarch or a Helderburg better to daily drive?
Monarch is built for it: modern GM V8, automatic transmission, FOX suspension, Wilwood brakes, and modern climate control are standard on a brand-new body. Helderburg intentionally preserves original character and drivetrains, which suits collection and occasional use more than daily commuting.
Looking for an alternative to Helderburg?
If you love the Defender but want modern V8 performance and a US-built vehicle rather than a heritage restoration built in England, Monarch Defender builds new-body commissions with up to 650 hp, published pricing from $250,000, and a two-year bumper-to-bumper warranty.
