Monarch Defender vs Heritage Driven

Same money, different philosophy: a frame-up restoration done right, or a truck that starts life brand-new.

About 60 builds a year

Brand-new aluminum body

Built near Chicago

The short answer

The short answer

Monarch Defender and Heritage Driven operate in the same price territory with different products. Heritage Driven builds made-to-order frame-up restorations in Albuquerque, with recent builds between roughly $190,000 and $295,000, in purist and modernized flavors. Monarch builds ground-up on a brand-new aluminum body with a 430 to 650 hp GM V8, from $250,000, with a two-year warranty.

Frame-up restoration vs ground-up build

Heritage Driven has spent about a decade earning a reputation for restorations that come out straighter and better-sealed than the trucks left the factory, across three collections that run from heritage-correct to modernized. Its sold-out build gallery speaks for itself, and its price band overlaps Monarch's almost exactly.

The Monarch difference at the same money is the starting point: a brand-new aluminum body on a new, corrosion-protected chassis rather than a restored original frame, with a standardized modern drivetrain, GM LS3 (430 hp), LT1 (460 hp), or supercharged LT4 (650 hp), plus FOX suspension and Wilwood brakes as standard.

Specification and coverage

Both shops build to order. Monarch's specification is fully open within a published standard-equipment baseline, and every truck carries a two-year bumper-to-bumper warranty with GM factory coverage on the crate engine; Heritage Driven does not publish warranty terms as of August 2026. Monarch also publishes its price band, while Heritage Driven's pricing shows through its completed builds.

Where Heritage Driven is the better fit

Choose Heritage Driven if a heritage-correct restoration is the goal and originality matters more than output; the craft is real. Choose Monarch when the same budget should buy a new truck: new body, modern V8 up to 650 hp, and coverage in writing.

Unrestored classic Defender with faded paint and rust

Traditional Restoration

Original everything: the loose steering, the weak brakes, the leaks, the smell of gasoline. Beautiful in a museum, exhausting on the road. You will drive it twice a summer.

Typical restomod Defender with a fresh repaint

Typical Restomod

New parts bolted into a thirty-year-old body. Better, but it still rattles, still rusts, and still doesn't drive like a modern truck. You will drive it on nice weekends.

Finished Monarch Defender build

Monarch Defender (us)

A ground-up build on a brand-new aluminum body: a GM V8 with up to 650 HP, modern suspension, brakes, and climate control. It looks like 1990 and drives like 2026. You will fight your family for the keys.
