Better-than-new restoration vs actually new
North America Overland's phrase is 'better than new,' and its restorations, including genuine Series II and IIA expertise that Monarch does not offer, have earned recognition including an Autoweek top-five mention. Buyers choose from its donor stock, pick a spec, and take a restoration slot from about $124,500.
Monarch removes the word 'restoration' from the equation: a brand-new aluminum body on a new chassis, a GM V8 at 430 to 650 hp, and a fully open specification, built in 6 to 12 months in Illinois.
Coverage and specification
Monarch publishes its price band and covers every truck with a two-year bumper-to-bumper warranty plus GM's factory coverage on the crate engine; North America Overland publishes no warranty terms as of August 2026. On specification, NAO's powertrain details are not published, while Monarch's standard equipment list, FOX suspension, Wilwood brakes, Nappa leather, is public down to the tires.
Where North America Overland is the better fit
Choose North America Overland for authenticity-first restorations, especially Series trucks, at a lower entry price. Choose Monarch for the modern-performance Defender: new body, modern V8, published terms, and a warranty designed for daily use.

Traditional Restoration
Original everything: the loose steering, the weak brakes, the leaks, the smell of gasoline. Beautiful in a museum, exhausting on the road. You will drive it twice a summer.

Typical Restomod
New parts bolted into a thirty-year-old body. Better, but it still rattles, still rusts, and still doesn't drive like a modern truck. You will drive it on nice weekends.

Monarch Defender (us)
A ground-up build on a brand-new aluminum body: a GM V8 with up to 650 HP, modern suspension, brakes, and climate control. It looks like 1990 and drives like 2026. You will fight your family for the keys.
