A famous badge's side project vs a specialist's whole business
Overfinch has tuned Land Rovers for five decades, and its Heritage arm applies that name to classic Defenders with the 465 bhp LS3, sold in small batches from London. The brand gravitas is real; the catch is availability: classics are a side line beside Overfinch's core business of enhancing new vehicles, and builds appear as occasional inventory rather than an open commission book.
Monarch's entire company is the classic Defender: about 60 open commissions a year, each on a brand-new aluminum body and new chassis, with the LS3 as the floor and the supercharged 650 hp LT4 as the ceiling.
Availability, geography, and terms
An Overfinch classic reaches a US buyer by export, at recent pricing around £195,000 plus VAT before shipping, with no published warranty as of August 2026. A Monarch is ordered any week of the year at a published $250,000 to $350,000 band, built in Illinois in 6 to 12 months, and covered for two years bumper-to-bumper.
Where Overfinch is the better fit
If an Overfinch build is available and the name matters to you, especially alongside a modern Range Rover from the same house, it is a fine object. If you want to commission your own truck rather than buy what exists, Monarch's open, US-built commission model is the point.

Traditional Restoration
Original everything: the loose steering, the weak brakes, the leaks, the smell of gasoline. Beautiful in a museum, exhausting on the road. You will drive it twice a summer.

Typical Restomod
New parts bolted into a thirty-year-old body. Better, but it still rattles, still rusts, and still doesn't drive like a modern truck. You will drive it on nice weekends.

Monarch Defender (us)
A ground-up build on a brand-new aluminum body: a GM V8 with up to 650 HP, modern suspension, brakes, and climate control. It looks like 1990 and drives like 2026. You will fight your family for the keys.
