The reverse restomod vs the real thing
Vintage Modern's idea is clever: start with a late-model Ford Bronco, complete with six airbags, stability control, and CarPlay, and dress it in retro bodywork with a Roush performance package. The result drives like the modern truck it is, and its 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with traveling technicians is the strongest coverage in this comparison set. The company rebranded from Vintage Broncos following a trademark dispute with Ford that has been publicly reported.
A Monarch approaches from the other side: it is a genuine classic-bodied vehicle, the Defender silhouette reproduced brand-new in aluminum on a new chassis, hand-built around a GM V8 at 430 to 650 hp. Not a wrapper on a production truck: a coachbuilt vehicle, one owner at a time.
What each buyer is actually buying
Vintage Modern's buyer is buying modern-car safety and serviceability in a nostalgic costume, at $169,000 to about $250,000. Monarch's buyer is buying authenticity with modern mechanicals: a real hand-built classic with FOX suspension, Wilwood brakes, Nappa leather, and a two-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, at $250,000 to $350,000 and up. Both are honest products; they are not the same product.
Where Vintage Modern is the better fit
If airbags and a factory-platform feel are non-negotiable and the retro look is the goal, Vintage Modern's formula delivers it with the longest warranty around. If you want the vehicle itself to be the real thing, a coachbuilt classic Defender rather than a rebodied 2023 Bronco, that is precisely what Monarch builds.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Monarch Defender and Vintage Modern?
Vintage Modern rebodies recent-production Ford Broncos in retro style from about $169,000, keeping the modern platform, safety systems, and a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. Monarch Defender hand-builds genuine classic Defenders ground-up on a brand-new aluminum body with GM V8 power, from $250,000 with a two-year warranty.
Is a Vintage Modern build a real classic?
It is a modern Ford Bronco wearing retro bodywork, which is the point of its safety and warranty story. A Monarch is a coachbuilt classic-form vehicle: new aluminum body, new chassis, hand-finished to one owner's specification.
Looking for a Vintage Modern alternative?
If you want the authentic classic rather than the costume, Monarch Defender builds the real Defender shape as a new vehicle, with modern V8 power, US build, and a two-year warranty.
